Myopia Management FAQs

What is myopia management?

Myopia management uses certain treatments and technologies to slow or even halt your child's myopia progression. Our myopia control program in Lincoln is unique as we have the latest technology and experience to ensure your child's vision remains stable and healthy for years to come.

Is myopia management necessary?

Myopia is more than just poor vision. Childhood myopia raises the risk of developing sight-threatening eye diseases later in life, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts. Speak to your eye doctor about the best ways to minimize your child’s risk.

At what age does myopia (nearsightedness) usually start?

Myopia can begin as early as 6 and will usually progress until roughly age 20. The longer it progresses, and the higher the prescription, the greater your child’s risk of sight-threatening eye conditions later in life.

When should my child start myopia management?

For optimal results, myopia management should be started as soon as possible. That said, myopia control can help children and teens of all ages.

My experience at EyeCare Specialties was perfect thanks to Andrea Garza. She made my visit quick, ea... sy, and educational. She helped me immensely on choosing frames that best fit me, educating me on my lenses and the different add ons/options, as well as the coverage of my insurance. She was professional and beyond knowledgeable. I am appreciative of her patience and guidance, and look forward to working with her again for any future needs at EyeCare Specialties!
